Barely seven weeks after the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha promised to give families and relatives of Imo state indigenes involved in the ill – fated Dana air crash, the sum of N50m, for burial arrangements, nothing has been heard from the state government till date.
The non – redemption of the N50m promise is coming at the heels of the recent release of 138 corpses to the families of crash victims for burial.
It would be recalled that the state Governor had during candle light service in memory of victims of Dana air crash, from Imo state, held at the Ahiajoku Convention Center, New Owerri, among other things the announced the sum of N50m from the state government to the families the victims to assist them in the burial arrangements.
ImoStateundoubtedly recorded the greatest loss with the highest number of victims that met their untimely death in the unfortunate incident.
Families of some of the crash victims have reportedly identified the corpses of their relations and concluded arrangements for burials even as some families like that of late Prof Celestine Onwuliri, and Oluchi Onyeriri had undertaken their burials.
Some family members of the crash victims from Imo State (names withheld) disclosed that they are yet to receive any amount from the state government as promised adding the have gone ahead to prosecute the burial without the contribution of the government. “What we will not appreciate is government playing politics with the corpse of the Dana Air crash victims. The governor should match words with action than making verbal commitments” they added.
