From Attack to Alliance
The Fall of PDP’s Helmsmen and the Vindication of Imo APC
Like dawn chasing away the darkness, truth has a way of unveiling itself no matter how long falsehood reigns. In Imo State’s ever-turning political theatre, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has once again stood tall, vindicated by the very actions of those who once fought, maligned, and blackmailed its leadership. The storm has calmed; and those who cast stones now seek refuge under the very party they once despise.
Recently, Hon. High Chief Bonny Ebili, a diehard stalwart and prime beneficiary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, stunned the political scene by announcing his resignation from the opposition party. Barely had the ink dried on his resignation letter when he was reportedly sighted around the Imo Government House, allegedly in a closed-door meeting with top APC stakeholders, negotiating terms for his formal defection into the ruling party.
Ebili, until recently, was the political anchor of the PDP’s federal lawmaker representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ugochinyere Michael Ikeagwuonu. Known for his constant antagonism, blackmail, and public campaigns against Governor Hope Uzodimma and the APC, Ugochinyere’s camp has been the loudest in attacking every stride of the administration. Yet today, the same camp is trembling; its key pillars collapsing one after another into the warm embrace of the same party they vilified.
Observers see Ebili’s sudden political pilgrimage as more than just a personal decision; it is a precursor to a larger negotiation, a tactical retreat aimed at preparing soft landing for Ugochinyere himself. Political analysts in the state have described it as “a confession without words,” a quiet admission that the APC under Uzodimma has become the true home for governance, progress, and inclusion in Imo State.
Reacting to the development, APC stakeholders in Ideato Nation maintained a mature, statesmanlike posture. They declared that the party remains open to all who come with sincerity and respect for its values. “Politics is a game of numbers,” one leader noted, “but it must also be a game of conscience.” They emphasized that the party’s spiritual, political, and social openness does not mean it will tolerate hypocrisy or opportunism disguised as reconciliation.
Across the State, party members have attributed the rising influx into APC to the exceptional leadership qualities of Governor Hope Uzodimma; a man whose calm resilience, political sagacity, and visionary governance have transformed Imo’s landscape. From digital empowerment to infrastructural renewal and peacebuilding, Uzodimma’s administration has given governance a human face. His brand of politics is one that heals wounds instead of reopening them, uniting rather than dividing.
Similarly, the peace and discipline in the Imo APC family, under the leadership of Hon. Macdonald Ebere PhD and the State Working Committee, have further strengthened the party’s image as a model of inclusiveness and fairness. Under this united leadership, APC has shown that political victory means nothing without human development, justice, and the collective good.
In the end, the story writes itself: the same tongues that once spat venom now sing praises; the same hands that once threw stones now stretch forth for handshake. The vindication of APC is not just political, it is moral. The truth has spoken, and its echo resounds: in Imo State, the All Progressives Congress remains the party with a human face, a clear conscience, and a heart for the people.
