The Imo state government has disclosed plans to install street lights in all the roads of Owerri capital city.
The state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha who stated this during a breakfast meeting with members of Dozie Owerri Association, a socio-cultural organization at the government House Owerri, said that the step is part of his administration’s resolve to make the state capital the crystal city of Nigeria. He further disclosed government determination to make Owerri capital city roads pot-hole free befitting of a capital city.
The governor frowned at a situation where some politicians take advantage of socio-cultural organizations to pursue their selfish ambition at the detriment of the common interest of the people.
Governor Okorocha, however, approved allocation of a piece of land for the construction of the organization’s secretariat in Owerri city.
Speaking earlier on behalf of the association, the Chairman, Sir Lucky Njoku said, they were at the Government House to express their solidarity and appreciation to the governor for the on-going transformation of the state.
He said Dozie Owerri is a melting point of opinions, made up of people from all works of life from Owerri federal constituency with branches in UK, USA and all over Nigeria.
While thanking the governor for appointing sons and daughters of the constituency in his cabinet, Njoku appealed to him to construct more roads to link up the LGAs of Owerri federal constituency.
