The rift between Imo Government and former Special Adviser to the Governor Hon MacDonald Akano has deepened with the Nwangele-born business man with threat hanging to the life and family of the ex- Special Adviser to Governor on Project Monitoring
Our source revealed that after the EFCC saga in which the former SA on project monitoring was invited and detained several times by the commission for an alleged offence connected with Jpros gate investigation, he may have decided to quit the government and be on his own only to manage the properties at the Hero’s Luxury appointment opposite Imo Concorde Hotel Owerri leased to his firm by the Imo state government.
Moreover, there were unconfirmed reports that the man has been reported to have made moves to carpet cross to PDP to join forces with other attempting to thwart Okorocha’s transformation programmes in the state.
Further information gathered revealed that based on these factors, the state government may have resorted to use one of its agencies to witch-hunt Akano and whip him into line again on the need to back the Rescue Mission.
Few days ago, the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) had squabbles with the Akanos which led to the beating of his wife, Chinwe. While Chinwe was alleged to have been beaten to a state of comma and now flown abroad for medical attention, Akano has gone into hiding and remained incommunicado for fear of his life.
The Imo Freedom Movement yesterday issued a statement accusing the government of trying to humiliate, suppress and intimidate Akano and his family for no just course.
The group also pleaded that inspector General for police and other higher authorities should wade into the matter between OCDA and Macdonald Akano.
OCDA has denied the allegation of being used to witch hunt any person stating that OCDA workers only came for verification exercise and discovered that the SA has added another structure in his premises, which the building regulating agency considered illegal.
Hon Ifeanyi Abaekwume the GM of OCDA had earlier hinted that his men were attacked while carrying out their legitimate duty at the place.
The group, who under the aegis of Imo Freedom Movement has also accused Government Okorocha of using the OCDA as attack dog to victimize his perceived political opponents in Imo state, the chairman of the group Comr Chima Okere therefore called on the government to halt the development before things go out of hand
