The newly appointed Commissioner for Public Utilities Prof. C .B Iwuchukwu during the week embarked on a familiarization tour of affiliated agencies and paratals of his ministry with a visit to the Imo Water Co – operation Okigwe road Owerri.

Prof. Iwuchukwu and his entourage were welcomed by the GM of the Co – operation Mr Emeka Duru and the entire staff of the Co – operation. In his welcome speech Mr Duru extolled the Commission for all his effort within his few weeks in office especially the payments of two months salary arrears and above all the cordial relationship he established with the management of the Co – operation  which he believes will take the Co – operation to a greater height. In his words “for always going to the government house sometimes as early as 5am, just to make sure our staff are paid their arrears shows commitment, and interest to the welfare of the staff. The cordial working environment the commissioner has created, has made us partner in progress which will in turn improve the service of the Co-operation to the general public”.

Reacting, the Commissioner commented on the importance of water to life and environments and the need for the cooperation to make it readily available for the general public. He advised the staff on the need for them to set up and take their job serious also accept the dress code in order to earn a justified wages also queue into the rescue mission agenda.

Prof. Iwuchukwu assured them that his ministry will do everything within its jurisdiction to provide and protect an enabling working environment with necessary facilities. He also challenged them with the protection of such provisions, and report any case of broken water pipe in their areas.

Some of the staff, who contributed, thanked the Commissioner for fighting for their salaries without even seeing them, he also urge Prof Iwuchuckwu to help to regularize their salaries and pay them their minimum wage salaries arrears.

 

He finally thanked him for his fatherly care and understanding, promising on behalf of the entire staff their total commitment to work and partnership with the ministry.
