The decision of workers of the Imo State House of Assembly to reject the reported reduction of their monthly pay packages is entering another unexpected stage.
On Tuesday when Trumpeta visited the Imo State House of Assembly premises, the workers naturally came to work but were putting on gloomy faces while standing or sitting in groups discussing their woes. Anything official or routine was grounded.
Some of the topics been discussed were their plan to resist any attempt to force them receive have salary, the trauma many of them have undergone in their families because of non-payment of salaries as well as the way forward to survive.
Yesterday, as usual, the workers turned up for duties only to be confronted with rumours that a delegation of government officials would be coming to pay them. A little life cam e up on their faces but it was not to last long.
As soon as the “pay team” arrived, the already anxious workers gathered but to their dismay, the team leader, a woman, (names withheld) announced their mission with full details of what they have come to do but this infuriated the workers. The climax was a move to start beating the team leader who made the announcement of “half pay”
At the peak of the rowdiness, she appealed for her safety. “I am just a massager”, “she pleaded with the angry mob (workers).
It was however not certain how the government “pay team” managed to escape lynching especially the leader of the said to the wife of one of the top ogas in the civil service.
