In recognition of the positive impacts the widely urban renewal program as introduced by governor Rochas Okorocha portends to the overall interest of Imo populace, the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Housing and Urban Development, and Honourable member representing Oru East State Constituency in IMHA, Hon Nkenna John Nzeruo has applauded the governor for the Urban Renewal policy.
He made the commendation on Imo governor after x-raying the derivable benefits derivable from the expansion and beautification of Owerri roads, and by extension to the three zones of the State.
It would be recalled that Governor Rochas Okorocha recently embarked on massive road expansions and its beautifications. The governor on the kick-off of the urban renewal program in the State however promised to dualize major roads in Owerri to 2,4,6,8 and possibly 12 lanes.
Hon Nzeruo posited that although the ongoing exercise would likely affect buildings and people’s property, it will boost the economic and investment potentials of the State.
He submitted that Imolites stand greater chances of benefiting from the program, hence pointed out that what the governor embarked on happens to fall on the IMHA Committee on housing and urban development which is saddled with the responsibilities of oversight function as it relates to housing in the State and its urban planning.
The Oru East legislator retorted that what Owelle Okorocha is doing is not for his personal benefit, but for the overall interest of all and Sundry residing in Imo State and environs.
In a similar note, Chief Nzeruo admonished Imolites to be patient with the State government while the project is going on, stressing that in plans to make Imo the hub of excellence, investment and tourism, the governor in his ingenuity and love for the State has promised to complete the ongoing road constructions and other structural construction in the State before end of the year 2017.
Imolites are also urged to give the present government the required supports needed in the actualization of the city renewal program. Nzeruo said that the APC led government has achieved tremendously in the infrastructural development of the State and as such assured that his committee will not relent in supporting such giant strides.
Meanwhile, it is on record that through the public presentation made by the Oru East legislator, Nkenna Nzeruo during the courtesy call made to the governor by Oru East leaders on the governors 55th birthday, the governor promised to complete all uncompleted roads and structures in Oru East LGA in no distant time.
