CPC holds workshop with supermarket and Allied Traders

The Imo state Consumer Protection Committee has expressed its preparedness to carry out her statutory functions without fear or favour to checkmate the activities of unscrupulous business men and women who deal on substandard goods and services.

The Acting General Manager, Imo state Consumer Protection Committee, Barr. Obioma Uzoma who stated this at the opening ceremony of CPC workshop/Seminar 2012 starting with supermarket and Allied Traders in Owerri noted that though its work force has odds and encumbrances, it manages to make its impact felt in the state.

In his address, the Secretary Imo state Supermarket Association, Mr. Chibuzo Awurum lamented that in Nigeria today, the security of the teeming consumer public is highly endangered derived by the unwholesome practices of most production outfits and retailing public.

Mr. Awurum remarked that the summit is organised to educate all business men and women who have brought sorrow to people through sudden death and loss of resources caused by the production, distribution and sale of fake, inferior and harmful goods and services and urged the consumers service providers to complement the activities of the CPC to ride the State of the unwholesome practices.

In his paper on “The role of Co – operatives in a depressed economy”, the Director of Co – operatives Imo state, Sir C.O Onuoha noted that co – operatives remain the only organ to fight poverty and undevelopment and called on all and sundry irrespective of status and position occupied in the society to embrace it.
