Mbaitoli Lawmaker Calls for Improved Security at Egbeada

Imo House of Assembly has adopted a motion urging the State Commissioner of Police to post policemen to the new market site in Egbeada.

This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon, Israel Ifeanyi Nntaraonye , member representing Mbaitoli state constituency at the Imo State House of Assembly during plenary on Tuesday.

Nnataraonye noted that hoodlums and other criminal elements have started operations at the new Egbeada market.

“The traders will not want to conduct their business in an environment faced with security challenges. The development has led to uneasiness among traders.

“This will undermine the intention of the state government to improve the rural economy by decentralization of markets within the state capital.

“I pray this honourable House to urge the state Commissioner of Police to post armed policemen to the site on a permanent basis to ensure the safety of traders,’’ he said.

He also called for the sitting of a police post at the market site to check criminal activities.

He further resolved that the state government should erect a police post at the market to check mate the activities of criminals. He stated.

Supporting the motion, Mrs Ngozi Obiefule member representing Isu state Constituency at the lmo state House of Assembly, noted that the sitting of a police post at the market would boost the morale of the traders.

The lawmakers unanimously adopted the prayers of the motion when the Speaker, Dr Iheanacho Ihim put the motion to vote.
