ADEQUATE SENSITIZATION ON IMMUNIZATION STRESSED

Ahiazu Mbaise Social Mobilization Committee (SMC) members have been charged to reach out to all communities in the area and ensure adequate sensitization of parents and care givers on the first round of 2013 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs).
The LGA Head of Department Health, Mrs. Callista Chimezie gave the charge while briefing them on the modalities  of the exercise at the Council Maternity Hall.
She said the four day programme would commence on Saturday 2nd and ends Tuesday 5th January, 2013.
Mrs. Chimezie stated that Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) would be administered house to house and at fixed/temporary health posts by vaccinators in company of recorders and called for the collaboration of traditional rulers, community leaders, faith based organizations and schools for sustenance of zero polio status.
Speaking, the Local Immunization Officer (LIO), Mr. Donatus Ohaka said routine immunization would also be on and urged nursing mothers to take the advantage to fully immunized their children against killer diseases.
He also emphasized on the need for pregnant mothers to avail the opportunity to update their dosage of Tetanus Tioxide (TT) to minimize rigour at child birth as well as death of mother and child.
Earlier, the LGA Social Mobilization Officer, Mr. George Umunakwe assured that the vaccines are free, safe and effective.
He reiterated need for prompt report of rejection cases for the desired attention.
In her speech, the LGA Nutrition Desk Officer, Mrs. Carol Nwoko urged the mobilizers to also search for sensitive cases of child malnutrition and report same treatment.
