The Mgbirichi River Corpses are Two not Ten – Imo Police PRO
The Imo State Police Command has countered the various media reports that ten bodies were dumped in Mgbirichi River in Ohaji – Egbema LGA of Imo State in a press release signed by the command PRO, DSP Joy Elemoko on behalf of the police commissioner declared the report false and unfounded. The release further disclosed that after a proper investigation and visit to the scene by the State Police Commissioner Muhammed. Musa Katsina only two decomposing bodies were found and not ten as was published by the media.
According to the release, a pathologist report confirmed that the killing might have taken place over six months back, and challenges any person that has proof of ten bodies to come forward and prove it
The police press release explains that all the necessary things required by the law have been done as pathologists came and examined the skeleton and have since submitted their reports. The necessary coroners forms were all submitted as required, and the remains have been given proper burial. Besides, homicide section of the state CID has been assigned to investigate the cause of death and identification of the corpses.” However, the command has appealed to the media to investigate and cross check their reports with the police and other relevant agencies for clarification before publishing such stories.
