Sexual harassment which has become the order of the day in one of the newly established traffic management agencies in the state, according to sources is fast threatening its foundation.

Recently some female staff of the establishment which is situated along Okigwe Road, Owerri, who pleaded anonymity for fear of being victimized, narrated their ordeal in the hands of some of their unscrupulous senior staff to our reliable source.

They accused the affected officers’ of threatening to throw them out of job if they refuse to grant their amorous request. Some who confided in our source confessed to committing the act as the only option they have to save their job in order to fend for their families and siblings.

They alleged that often times, the officer’s issue them unwarranted queries and even make undue deductions from their salaries to make them succumb.
According to a reliable source, those who are wont to the immorality spurred their counterparts and spearheaded the media chat on the condition that names of the officer’s will not appear in print to avoid being scapegoats.

On why they did not report the matter to their overall boss, the managing director/chief executive officer M/D CEO from the on set, they described him as a disciplinarian and principled man will not take it lightly with the perpetrators.

They expressed fear that the dire consequences and outcome of his reaction might compel the culprits to come after them through diabolical means in the long run.

Before the recent development, a female staff of the outfit (names withheld) told our source amidst tears that she fell victim to the downsizing exercise embarked upon by the authorities because she turned down the request of their personnel officer (names withheld) to be his girlfriend and so she lost her job.

Something therefore has to be done and urgently too, to save these innocent young and energetic girls’ from this dehumanizing act.

When contacted on phone the managing director/Chief Executive Officer, Chief Don Onwulaike who said such matter has not been brought to his notice, however promised to look into the allegation while assuring that the culprits will not be spared no matter how highly placed.

He therefore encouraged the victims to speak up to enable him identify and bring the culprits to book.
