The era of demolition in Owerri, the Imo State Capital is not yet over as the Owerri Capital Development Authority, OCDA, begins fresh moves to ascertain illegal structures erected in the state capital.
As part of programmes to ascertain illegal structures in the state capital, OCDA has commenced the “Operation show-your Building-Approval” for all petrol filling stations located within Owerri Federal Capital territory. Owners of petrol filling stations are expected to present or show evidence of the approval of their petrol filling stations from the OCDA before the end of June as erring operators stand the risk of having their petrol station sealed up or demolished.
The agency noted that certificate of occupancy does not translate to building approval as OCDA is geared towards eradicating illegal structures.
At a meeting between OCDA and petroleum operators in the agency’s office in Owerri, OCDA General Manager, TPL Iheanyi Abaekwume gave the oil and gas dealers ultimatum to show their building approval.
Confirming the development to Trumpeta, TPL Abaekwume disclosed that OCDA is poised to pursue the objectives of the Accelerated City Beautification programme. Adding that he is working towards the realization of the Owerri Master Plan.
“Our intention is to fully implement the Owerri Master Plan thereby making the State Capital and indeed Imo a modern model city. In this regard owners of filling stations must within 14 days show evidence of the building approval to OCDA or have their outfits sealed or demolished after expiration date”
The Chairman of the Petrol Marketers, Mr Amadi promised to support efforts of the present administration in making Imo Better.
