In contrast to unconfirmed reports that the proposed creation of new electoral wards from the existing INEC wards by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC is a sham, the Commission is waiting for the Imo State House of Assembly.
It would be recalled that several communities who wanted new wards had paid N50,000 for collection of forms and another N25,000 to ISIEC for other logistics before the council election.
Even as the Local Government election could not hold on the scheduled date, no new ward has been created by ISIEC several months after it collected monies from the general public.
However, authorative sources revealed that ISIEC has concluded all arrangements for the creation of new electoral wards but is waiting for the Imo State House of Assembly go-ahead.
A top official of the Commission disclosed that the ward creation exercise has been concluded adding that the state lawmakers would receive the report of ISIEC for necessary legal backing for the new wards.
“The long break of the Imo State House of Assembly stagnated ISIEC action. As soon as the lawmakers resume normal legislative duties, the new wards will be forwarded to them for necessary action” the source added.
