The division rocking the Association of Local Government in Nigeria (ALGON), Imo State Chapters, may have attracted the attention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, following indications that the party leadership has resolved to wade into the feud.
Imo ALGON has been polarized recently, following the resolve of some members of the Association, to constitute themselves into a Peace Committee.
The committee is led by Chief Sam Aka, Ikeduru Executive Chairman. Aka’s claims and report has been refuted by ALGON leadership which said the body is illegal and does not have the authority of Imo ALGON.
Three members of the Peace Committee were said to have issued a letter, disassociating it from the committee. The Aka committee however, fired back, yesterday saying none of its members in its fold ever authored a dissociation letter.
When contacted for comments, the Imo State ALGON Secretary, Barr Enyinnaya Onuegbu told Imo Trumpeta to reach out to the three council Chairmen to ascertain if they did or did not route their letter disassociating themselves from the Aka Committee. Efforts by this newspaper to speak to the three Chairmen were futile as at press time.
Based on these latest wrangling, the Imo PDP, saddened by the latest development has intervened in the matter. Though details of the party’s intervention were sketchy at press time, the party leadership maintained yesterday that it is bound to ensure the unification of the two warring groups.
According to party’s Publicity Secretary, Blyden Amajirionwu, he acknowledged that the party will strive to reconcile the two groups, saying “Both of them are PDP and cannot be allowed to disintegrate”
